This collection includes the original plantation grants of Sudbury, Mass., for the period 1642 to 1698, especially those of John Lynn ( - ) and Eliazar Luther ( - ); a photography copy of a 1642 thown building contract of John Puffer ( - ) signed by the original settlers; land and mortgage deeds, and a bond of Nathaniel Moore ( - ) and others; also photographs of land surveys. The collection also includes a seven-page account of Sudbury written by Rev. Peter Whitney (1770-1843) in 1815 relative to topography and historical events, such as Indian wars and ecclesiastical history. There are requests for the issuance of summonses by the militia against members for neglect of duty, a certificate of enrollment in the militia, and a discharge from service, and a photograph of an account of powder and bullets delivered out of the town stock to specific individuals by order of the selectmen on 19 April 1775.

Ten companies comprised the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia: five from Boston, one from North Bridgewater, one from Abington, one from Weymouth, one from Stoughton, and one from Gloucester. After organization was completed, the regiment was ordered to Fort Warren in Boston Harbor.
